House Speaker Shannon Announces Plan to Seek Interim Study on Judicial Reform

OKLAHOMA CITY – June 7, 2013 House Speaker T.W. Shannon announced plans for an interim study that will focus on reforming Oklahoma’s judicial process.

The study will look into term limits for judges on the appellate and Supreme Court levels. House members will review the current effectiveness of the nomination process and will hear testimony and gather evidence concerning the pros and cons of term limits.

“As lawmakers, it is essential that we monitor the processes of government and ensure a balance of power among the three branches,” said Speaker Shannon, R-Lawton. “This study will be a healthy evaluation of our judicial process to make sure we are properly serving the public and correctly enforcing the will of the people. The Forefather’s created a system of checks and balances. We must make sure that system is not completely controlled by a powerful handful of activists.”
